Wines Around the World: Mediterranean
March 2 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$5
As our Wines Around the World wine-tasting tour travels to the Mediterranean, we visit the countries of Greece, Israel, Italy, and Spain. Each offers distinct wines and different terrains for growing grape vines, which influences the taste and breadth of the wines.
Greece, the mountainous, Mediterranean country in the sun-drenched south-east of Europe – is often considered the birthplace of civilization. Archaeological evidence suggests that wine has been made in some parts of Greece for more than 4,000 years. Although tiny compared to most modern wine-producing nations, Israel’s annual wine production has attracted attention from all corners of the wine world in recent years. Italy has a rich and diverse wine heritage dating back more than two thousand years. Italy is significant for the sheer volume of wine it produces annually. Spain is a land of breathtaking landscapes, colorful history and a deep, complex culture in which wine has long played an important role. Today, Spain is home to more vines than any other country on Earth, and has a national wine output exceeded only by France and Italy.
As we wind our way through these Mediterranean countries, we will visit specific sub-regions and the wines that populate those sub-regions, culminating with a wine tasting & food pairing using a board of three: 1 meat, 1 cheese, and 1 fruit, and a flight of wines from Greece, Israel, Italy, & Spain.
